The flow experience graph psychology4/16/2023 ![]() Note that there is variance in which activities are intrinsically rewarding to people. Enraptured by the exercise of control over one’s actions (or lack of fear of losing control) and the intrinsic reward of engaging in the activity, the individual in flow experiences time passing by faster than normal. Paradoxically, most enjoyable activities demand a significant initial investment of energy that an individual may be reluctant to make though once the person acts and receives frequent feedback to their skills, the momentum of successful goal-achieving compounds. In other words, self as a social actor dissipates while action and awareness merge. Reflective self-consciousness is lost as one becomes so absorbed in the activity that actions become spontaneous, even automatic. ![]() During flow, the individual experiences intense, focused concentration on the present engagement.
